Ripatorium Mode Arrives in Doom: The Dark Ages
Doom: The Dark Ages Update 2 lands with a new custom arena mode called the Ripatorium and a wide pass on combat flow. It’s a clear step toward Eternal’s pace without ditching this game’s heft. The update is live now on all platforms.
Ripatorium: build your own fights
The Ripatorium is a configurable horde-style mode with three arenas and a full encounter manager. You choose what spawns, how many waves, and how long it runs, or flip on endless. There’s also a jukebox for your fight track.
- Pick demon types and quantities, set wave count and time limit, or run endless.
- Three arenas: City of Ry’uul, Village of Khalim, Harbor of Souls.
- Jukebox to select a Dark Ages track for the encounter.
Combat and campaign tuning
Update 2 targets weapon feel and late-game intensity. Headliners: you can now interrupt any weapon-swap animation to block; swap speeds are faster; and there’s a slider to adjust the slow-motion effect on parries and melee hits. id also reworked multiple encounters (especially in Acts 2–3) and touched up the dragon and mech sequences.
More in the patch
- PC: new Benchmark Mode demo loop.
- Two Slayer skins to earn (including a limited QuakeCon skin) plus a “Perfection” reward for clearing Ripatorium on all three maps.
- Ongoing difficulty and encounter balance based on player feedback.
Price and availability
The Dark Ages is currently 25% off on Steam at $52.49 / £52.49 at the time of writing. It’s also playable via Xbox and PC Game Pass.
